Schools run the most institutional content mix in the dataset: weather (94%, second only to gas stations), media (82%), calendars (74% — near the top of all industries), and templates (62%). It's hallway-and-lobby signage: announcements, schedules, the forecast for recess.

And it's the slowest-moving content anywhere. Median content age in education is 49.3 days — three times the all-industry median — which makes self-updating widgets (calendars, weather) disproportionately valuable here: they keep the screen current when no human does. On the survey side, education operators are middle-of-the-pack on AI (51.3% engaged) and on ROI (71.8% don't measure it) survey n=117. The typical education workspace runs 1 screen (mean 3.6).

Frequently asked questions

Do schools use digital signage?

Widely — education is one of the largest verticals in the dataset (n=3,790 workspaces). 94% of education screens show weather, 74% a live calendar, 82% media, and 62% templated announcements.

How often do schools update their digital signage?

Education is the slowest vertical measured: median content age is 49.3 days, three times the all-industry median of 16.8 days. Self-updating content — calendars, weather — does much of the work.

Are schools using AI for digital signage content?

About half are engaged: 51.3% of surveyed education operators use or plan to use AI within a year (n=117), close to the all-industry rate of 54.5%.

The 49-day refresh gap is fixable with scheduling: bell-schedule automation, expiring announcements and district-wide control are covered in the digital signage for schools guide.
