What happened: Netflix's Rebel Moon marketing team has unveiled a new activation to promote the movie. Las Vegas Sphere turned into a different planet for that one. But there was also something that nobody else did. The swarm of drones encircled the gigantic rounded LED screen to form the appearance of cosmic rings.
Imagine having a party night in your Vegas hotel suite just to see something like that out of your window. Netflix doesn't play around when it comes to pompous presentation of its content and this Rebel Moon activation fully proves it.
But it's not only extraterrestrial colors and the drone show. We also see Jimmy, an android from Mechanicas Miltarium unit that was created to protect the king of the galactic empire. The character was voiced by Anthony Hopkins in the film.
Basically, this Rebel Moon campaign is a mix of physical and digital with drone and anamorphic 3D billboard playing together to fully immerse the onlookers into the space opera extravaganza of the Rebel Moon.
What else: released on December, 15 Rebel Moon has managed to become the most-watched title on Netflix since its launch. The viewers were keen to tune in to the brand new movie of Zack Snyder of 300, Justice League, and Sucker Punch fame.
The critics weren't that much impressed by the sci-fi flick. Currently, Rebel Moon has a 24% rating on Rotten Tomatoes (against a 64% audience score). The Guardian called it a "derivative space opera saga," Forbes "a mixed bag," and AV Club "a soulless dud." However, the disparity between the opinions of critics and ordinary viewers shows that the Netflix movie hits the right notes for the platform itself.
There will be more too. Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver will be released on April 19, 2024.
