AI digital signage is conquering the world promising a bigger impact, better engagement, and a boost in sales. Or is it? ChatGPT, Bard, and DALL·E were all met with excitement by the consumers promising the revolution in technology. But is it really happening? Is it as functional and exciting as the marketing texts suggest? AI digital signage is still very much in the development stage. But let’s see what’s going on in the market and review some of the cool digital signage AI projects from Infocomm 2023.

A new approach to analyzing data

While it’s hard to say that Artificial Intelligence has made a revolution in the world of digital signage yet, one thing is as clear as day, we’re all excited. For the capabilities, for the application, for the potential.

As businesses around the world embrace the power of AI, the digital signage industry doesn’t hold back. There’s a rising demand for new solutions that can process data quicker and deliver more customized, personalized results.

Artificial intelligence has one groundbreaking feature that is able to bring real change to the way things are done. It’s the quick processing of data and delivering predictive analytics. When you’ve got your hands on such a tool, marketing is taken to the next level. And that’s the main reason companies turn to AI digital signage, to be able to better control the way they’re dealing with data and let the intelligent solution do the magic.

It’s one thing to make predictions manually calculating what the audience will like. AI is made to be able to analyze countless amounts of data. All of this information is indispensable during promotional campaigns, audience tailoring, and actual delivery.

Content creation simplified

At the end of the day, it’s always about the content. AI for digital signage made it much easier to design and implement. This kind of tool reduces costs, decreases the time to produce, and broadens the scale of what can be done.

There are currently different types of AI content solutions that can be used for digital signage:

1) image and video generators

2) AI editing software

3) copy generators

4) AI template databases

Still, it’s worth remembering that AI content is not free of mistakes, and you can’t really really on it a hundred percent. It is a great tool to have in your arsenal but it’s an additional tool nevertheless. Customers may easily detect the AI content and for some, it may be a disappointment.

That’s why it’s important to balance between the standard and AI-generated for the best results.

Technology for the Future

Shh, it’s learning.

That’s pretty much the sentiment that one can get from the current state of AI development. As Fortune put it, artificial intelligence is in its kindergarten phase right now. Daily it analyzes and “eats” a vast amount of data that comes from a variety of places. Researchers, companies, and customers, all serve as nurturers.

But kindergarten means that it’s not adult life yet, it’s getting there. The ascent is rapid but the AI still has a lot to learn. But once it does graduate, it’s going to be massive.

For the digital signage industry, it means that the AI breakthrough is not quite there yet. Yes, many companies have implemented AI features in their products, and some startups have been created with artificial intelligence at the core of the idea. But largely the principle of operation remains as it was with AI serving as a flashy, trendy new thing that is nice to have but doesn’t change much.

AI digital signage is on the verge of becoming big but it’s not that big yet.

Power of AI-driven facial recognition

Here’s one domain where AI takes absolute lead and made some exciting (and scary) breakthroughs. It’s the ability to recognize faces, analyze them, turn them into data, and serve this data to the master. That’s what artificial intelligence is perfect at and that’s what businesses around the world have embraced with open arms.

This technology is especially relevant and already widely used in retail.

It’s quite natural to find it there out of any place. Daily millions of customers visit the physical stores. Basically, in the eyes of facial recognition AI, this is all about data.

But here the matter is more nuanced. With proper training, the AI can track who is visiting the store, what a person is buying, why the person is buying, and what the business can do for the person to buy more.

When you have such information as a business on your hands, your marketing wins. AI paired with facial recognition gives you extremely valuable customer data which you can transform into real marketing results in the future.
